When it comes to clipping a Labradoodle, it's essential to have the right grooming supplies on hand. A well-executed clipper not only keeps your Labradoodle looking fresh, but it also promotes the health of your furry friend. In this article, we'll provide advice and information on purchasing the right clippers and accessories so you can clip your Labradoodle all by yourself.
Once you've decided to shave your (Labra)doodle's coat, it's important to purchase the right tools. Not every coat is the same. The right clipper is crucial in determining whether the shaving process will be a joy or a nightmare. To choose the right clipper, it's important to consider your dog's coat type.
If you want to shave cordlessly, we recommend the Heiniger hair clippers.
Want to shave your dog with Heiniger clippers but don't know which one to choose and are hesitant by the huge price difference? We're happy to explain.
The Heiniger hair clippers in our range all have the same motor and cutting head, and therefore the same specifications. The price difference lies in whether you choose corded, cordless with one battery, or cordless with two batteries.
If you want to shave with a cord, we recommend the Heiniger Cord.
If you want to shave 1 dog, the Heiniger Saphir Style Basic is a good choice.
When shaving multiple dogs or horses, for example, we recommend the Heiniger Saphir Style clipper.
The clipper is the most important tool, but that alone isn't enough. If you want to shave your dog longer than 1.5 mm, it's important to use a different blade or attachment comb.
There's a big difference between these two products. We're happy to explain.
The attachment comb: An attachment comb is essentially what the name suggests: it's a comb. The combs click over the clipper head using the easy-to-use snap-on system. With combs, you can keep the coat very long, up to 2.5 cm.
The advantage of the attachment comb set is that you can keep the length 2.5 cm. You can also use multiple attachment combs while clipping, allowing you to create different lengths. For example, you can keep the head longer than the belly, and so on. We sell a lot of attachment combs to Labradoodle owners because they want to keep their Doodle's coat as long as possible.
There are also a few drawbacks to attachment combs. Clipping with attachment combs is certainly not suitable for all doodle coats. The disadvantage of an attachment comb is that the teeth are very close together. It's the same as a regular comb. If a regular comb can't get through the coat, an attachment comb won't either. This isn't a problem for a tangle-free, thin coat. But if the coat is thicker and you're not using powerful clippers, you'll notice that the clippers get caught in the fur during clipping.
Additionally, you click the attachment comb over the clipper, creating a gap between the combs and the blades, which reduces some of the clipper's power. This also makes it easier for the clipper to get snagged in the coat.
The clipper head: The advantage of a clipper head is that there's no space between the combs and the blades, which maintains the clipper's power. This also reduces the risk of snagging. There are also clipper heads with wider teeth, ideal for thicker and matted coats. We offer clipper heads in various lengths, allowing you to keep the coat relatively long even with a clipper head! A disadvantage of a clipper head is that they're more expensive than clipper combs. This often makes it quite expensive if you want to clip your Doodle to different lengths with multiple clipper heads during a single grooming session.
We sell attachment comb sets from Wahl, Geisha, and Heiniger. The longest attachment comb in the Wahl attachment comb set is 25 mm. The longest attachment comb in the Geisha and Heiniger attachment comb sets is 32 mm. These come with one extra attachment comb compared to the Wahl. This is also the price difference.
Furthermore, the price difference lies in the brands.
All attachment comb sets we offer fit the clippers we offer in our range.
The clipper can get hot while shaving, and hair can also get stuck in the head or between the combs. This makes shaving very unpleasant.
That's why it's essential to purchase a good clipper spray. Trimmercide or Blade Ice spray are good choices.
